Share a window or your whole screen and just ask: "why is this broken?", "which one should I pick?", "what does this say?" A snapshot goes with what you say, so the answer is about the thing in front of you. On the desktop, the character can even point at the spot on screen.
Turn on comments and the character reacts unprompted when your screen changes - a finished level, an error, a new tab - and checks in now and then. Like having someone on the couch next to you, not a search box.
Pin the character over your games, editors and videos. In the desktop app the window is transparent and click-through, so the character never gets in the way - and a key pressed in any program starts a conversation. In a browser it's a small floating window.
Every reply is spoken in the character's own voice, with mouth and expression following the sound. Hold the spacebar and talk, or type if you'd rather stay quiet.

hikomi is new, so your browser or Windows may warn about the download ("isn't commonly downloaded", "Windows protected your PC"). Choose Keep, then More info and Run anyway. The browser version has no such step.

Yes, in the browser: any computer, phone or tablet, with nothing to install. The desktop app is for Windows 10 and 11. Sharing your screen needs a computer - in Chrome or Edge, or the Windows app.
Only when you share it. Press Share screen and pick a window or your whole screen; a snapshot then goes with your messages, so the character answers about what's in front of you. How screen sharing works.
Screenshots are thrown away once the reply is written. Conversations are kept so the character remembers you, until you erase its memory or delete your account. To answer, your messages go to Anthropic, whose AI writes the replies, and through a quick safety check. Nothing is sold, there are no ads, and conversations aren't used to train AI. Yes. In the character creator you pick the look - hairstyle, outfit, colours, accessories - write the personality and choose a voice. It remembers you like the others do, and follows the same safety rules.
