About hikomi
hikomi is an AI companion to chat with while you work, study or game. It puts a 3D character on your screen that talks out loud and, when you share your screen, tells you what it sees.
100 free credits to start - about 20 minutes of chatting. No card needed.
For people 16 and over (18 in the US) - using hikomi means agreeing to the terms.
What is hikomi?
hikomi is an app with a 3D character you talk with, by voice or by typing. The character answers out loud, in its own voice. The words are written by an AI, and hikomi says so: a notice when you open it, and the character says so whenever you ask.
It isn't another chat window. In the Windows app the character stays on top of your other apps; in Chrome or Edge it sits in a small floating window.
What can it do today?
- Look at your screen when you share it and answer about what's on it. How screen sharing works.
- Speak up by itself when your screen changes a lot, if you turn on Comments (on a computer, with a screen shared). Playing games with it and studying with it.
- Answer out loud: every reply is spoken.
- Remember what you told it: each character keeps its own conversation with you.
- Point at things with its own cursor, in the Windows app, when a whole screen is shared.
What does it not do?
- It never acts for you: it can't click, type, buy or send anything. It talks, and in the Windows app it points.
- It sees only what you share, one snapshot at a time. It can't watch motion or count things over time.
- It isn't for younger people: 16 and over, or 18 in the United States and anywhere else whose law restricts AI companions for minors.
- There is no Mac app yet, and a phone can talk and type but can't share its screen.
Where does it run?
In your browser, with nothing to install (sharing your screen needs Chrome or Edge on a computer), and as an app for Windows 10 and 11. The same characters, account and credits in both.
Who are the characters?
You start with three: Hikomi, Aoi and Ren. Each keeps its own conversation with you. Meet Hikomi.
What does it cost?
Free to start: new accounts get 100 credits, about 20 minutes of chatting, and no card is needed. After that there are monthly plans and credit packs, under Plans & credits.
What happens to my screen?
Nothing is recorded or streamed continuously. A picture goes only when one is needed: with something you say, or when the character looks by itself with Comments on. Each picture is thrown away once the reply is written. Pictures and messages go to Anthropic, whose AI writes the replies, and aren't used to train AI.
Everything that's kept, and for how long: privacy.
